At this point, most of you have identified a health issue/topic of interest for your DNP project. This post will begin the background work both the DNP and epidemiology projects. Utilizing the concepts of descriptive epidemiology (chapters 3, 4, 5, 6), describe your identified topic in epidemiological terms. Be sure to include information related to disease classification, natural history/stages of disease, characteristics of person/place/time (as appropriate–this may include: population risk (age, gender, race/ethnicity, etc.), time trends, prevalence, incidence (if applicable), mortality rates, years of potential life lost, and causal insights.
Ensure you use what are considered reliable sources (CDC, WHO, governmental agencies, or agencies considered experts on your topic (American Heart Association, etc.). If you have a question about a source, please reach out and ask if it is appropriate.
