Psychodynamic Theory Paper (Jungian, Adlerian & Existential Theories)

This assignment requires that you select one of the three
major psychodynamic theories addressed in this course (ego psychology, object relations, or self-psychology)
and apply it to a case situation that you presently have contact with or have worked with in the
past (in a field practicum or employment experience).
Please address the following issues:
1.
How does this theory fit with a clinical social
work perspective? This requires that you define clinical social work.
2. Provide a theory-driven problem statement and an assessment of the client
system in the environment. This should include how and why you believe, the
problem occurred based on the development concepts and nature of the problems that the theory suggests. Structural and developmental concepts about people, and assumptions about the nature of the individual, the nature of the problem (s)
and the nature of change.
3. Consider the following concepts: Transference and Countertransference,
Transitional Object and Transitional space, and finally Ego functions and
Conflict-free ego sphere, address how these concepts guide the actions of the
practitioner. Discuss the concept of empathic attunement and how this concept
guides your actions as a practitioner.
4. Formulate a beginning intervention plan that includes goals, strategies to
help alleviate the problem (s), and criteria that you and the client system
will use to determine whether the problem is resolved.
5. Remember that all theories include:
• structural and developmental concepts about people and developmental concepts
about people, and
• assumptions about the nature of the individual, the nature of problems and
the nature of change.
